Our team arrived in the Dominican Republic on June 2, and we have loved every second of it. We are staying at Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, where we are being served just as much as we are serving the people here. Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, NPH, takes in children who have no parents, were abandoned by their parents, or whose parents are unable to give them the care they need. At NPH these children get the care, love, support, and education that they had been missing before.

Our first group of high schoolers was from Iowa, and they loved the time they spent here. During their stay we dug a trench to build a fence around some of the boys’ houses, and worked on what is going to be an agricultural education building. Whenever we were not working on construction, we got to spend time with the pequeños and build friendships that will be forever cherished. These bonds were so strong that several of the Iowans were shedding tears as their bus pulled away to head to the airport. Our CMT team is excited to get to stay here another week, and we look forward to working with the group that just arrived from Minnesota.

Picture: Us, (David, Riley, Alana, and Allie) with our new friend who is here for a few weeks to receive chemotherapy. We love his joy filled laugh, and even though we do not know his language, so cannot have conversations with him, spending time with him is one of our favorite activities.
