Mother Teresa opened her first rural mission in Jenkins, KY. This area in rural Appalachia is one of the most under-developed areas in the United States. Many families live in homes with no running water. With the decline of the coal mining industry many people have lost their jobs. Already an area with much suffering, the flooding in 2022 caused more damage to thousands in the area of Eastern Kentucky. In this area you will get a chance to meet the Missionaries of Charity, pray with the sisters, and serve the people they love.

Free Day Option
Friday can be a half work day or recreation day. Groups who travel a long distance sometimes take their free day as they travel home. Let your site coordinator know what you prefer. There is a beautiful lake nearby, mining museums, and hiking options.
Pray for good weather. If we get rain, it’s possible that the outdoor projects will be cancelled for the day. Catholic Mission Trips, Inc., will try to arrange both outdoor and indoor projects for each group.
