Housing

Housing in New Orleans will be at a volunteer housing center or high school gym. Participants should plan on bringing sheets, pillow, and a towel. Men, women, boys and girls will have separate sleeping areas. Check with your site coordinator for more housing details.

Meals

Meals will be provided starting Monday evening when you arrive, until you depart the following Saturday. The only meals that are not included are your free day meals, while you are out touring the city. Plenty of breakfasts options and we pack a sack lunch. Dinners are always hot.

Work Projects

Work projects in the New Orleans area is focused on disaster recovery and assistance for the elderly and low income families. Projects in New Orleans include deconstruction and cleanup work or rebuilding work, such as framing, roofing, siding, sheetrock, flooring, insulation, painting, building wheelchair ramps, and landscape work.

Travel

You can drive in or fly in. Transportations is not included in cost. You will need to by your tickets and rent enough rental cars for your group for the week.

  • Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) – about 30 Minutes from home base

Free Day

Friday can be a half work day or free recreation day. Groups who travel a long distance sometimes take their free day as they travel home. Let your site coordinator know if you prefer Friday as a half work day, whole work day, or free day. Most groups go sightseeing to the National Shrine of St. Francis Xavier Seelos, visiting the French Quarter, see St. Louis Cathedral, try the famous Café Au Lait & Beignets, and take a swamp ride to see alligators.

Weather

Pray for good weather. If we get rain, it’s possible that the outdoor projects will be cancelled for the day. Catholic Mission Trips, Inc., will try to arrange both outdoor and indoor projects for each group.
